Kia ora, I’m Katie Brown. I come from a small town in New Zealand called Timaru. My father was Maori and my mother is NZ European. I am a decedent of Ngati Raukawa ki Waikato and Ngati Whatua Orakei, near Auckland. My Grandfather grew up on our pa in Putaururu, famous for some of the purest water in the world. I was raised with strong values of community, family, conservation and unlimited potential.
For the last 15 years, I’ve been working in the digital world in different forms. I really cut my teeth in all things digital at Trade Me, guided and inspired by some of the smartest brains New Zealand has produced. I then led the move to digital and social media at ACC for almost 6 years.
Now, I work for myself as a communications consultant, I run social media and digital workshops and I am co-director of Social Good Ltd, a company committed to creating positive change in the world through our work.
I lost my father to cancer in 2016 and it fundamentally changed the way I approached life. I wanted to live it with kindness and clarity. It spurred me to share my journey through grief and happiness, in the hope that others struggling might benefit. It’s also meant I’ve chosen not to drink anymore and become vegan.
And, it sparked something in me that wanted to give more back to this world and continue my Dad’s legacy of good.
This is Katie Brown Thinks – a journey of growth, interesting thoughts, ideas and ramblings. Thanks for tuning in.
